On a quiet morning in early May, one of our trail cams—set in the middle of our mountain property—captured a moment that stayed with me.
This post tells the story behind our custom fawn metal sign—part of the Wild Steel™ Series—crafted from real trail cam inspiration.
A young foraging fawn with its head down stood peacefully as it gathered its morning meal. That morning, the trail cam recorded not just one, but two short clips—both captured moments apart when the camera briefly reset. In each, the foraging fawn is quietly eating—nosing gently through the forest floor—moving slowly, peacefully, with no sign of fear.
There was no sign of its mother in either clip, but she had to be nearby. The fawn wasn’t frightened or frantic. Just present. The way only wild things can be when they know the forest is watching over them.
That moment reminded me that not all beauty in the wild is fierce. Some of it is quiet. Innocent. A glimpse of life that makes you pause.
I turned that pause into steel.
The result is this address sign, framed in a rustic log design, with the fawn standing gently above your custom house numbers. While the sign shows the fawn alert—captured in a full, graceful pose for clarity—it was the soft, foraging behavior that truly inspired the design.

The fawn wasn’t startled or fleeing — just quietly foraging in the open, unaware of the camera capturing her stillness. That gentle moment stayed with us. While the final sign design shows her alert and upright, it began here, with a simple sketch drawn from memory and inspiration — a tribute to the quiet life that moves through our forest.

Our Off-Grid Log Cabin
Tucked up in the mountains, this is the log home we built by hand, one log at a time. We live off-grid here, surrounded by quiet woods, wandering wildlife, and the kind of stillness that lets you notice the little things. Most of our sign designs are born from real moments that happen just beyond this porch: a cougar crossing through the pines, a fawn curled up on our driveway, a chipmunk or Jaybird raiding the feeder.
